The original tape-based linear editing had the advantage that you could see all the media as you played the takes from the videotape and you could just fast forward or rewind. A modern twist on videotape is now available in the Cut page, called Source Tape mode. Just press the "Source" button and use the search dial to scroll through all your media. The current clip is marked live in the bin. After making an edit, the viewer stays in source tape mode so you can move to the next shot faster.

Quickly set in and out points
The most common editing operation is setting In and Out points. That's why there are large in and out buttons on the Speed Editor keyboard that you can find without looking. This is ideal for two-handed editing, because you can operate the transport buttons with your right hand and set in and out points and make cuts with your left. Simply scroll with the seek control and place in and out points wherever you like. Once the In and Out points are set, simply stretch your fingers toward the edit function buttons to perform the edit. The In and Out points are also used to zoom in on the source tape. If you then want to return to the full bin from the source tape view, press the escape key.

Smart editing modes with a keyboard
With a keyboard it cuts differently than with a mouse. For this reason, the Cut page space has been upgraded to take full advantage of the keyboard's speed. The intelligent editing functions use a so-called "smart indicator" in the timeline to insert edits automatically. Most of the time, this saves you having to set in and out points in the timeline to make an edit. The edit buttons are located just above the in and out buttons and are easy to find by touch. The best thing is: In the Cut workroom, you don't waste time switching to the timeline with every cut. You stay in the source tape, browsing it visually and continually placing clips. This is much faster because you can just throw clips into the timeline one at a time.

Live trimming with the search dial
With the high-quality, large search dial integrated into the keyboard, you can trim settings with the utmost precision. The handy size of the search dial also adds a new dimension to the user experience when trimming. It's also faster because the trim buttons turn the seek control into a trim tool. Simply hold down one of the trim buttons and turn the knob. While you select different trimming modes with your left hand, you can make fine adjustments with your right hand. It's extremely fast and the smart indicator in the timeline shows you exactly which edit point you're trimming. Simply navigate through the timeline and trim cuts live. A whole new way of working!

Insert and remove effects faster
Inserting transitions on crop marks can be time-consuming in the software because you have to click and drag each effect individually need to drag the timeline. But with the DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor keyboard you can turn effects on and off at the touch of a button. Effects can be added or removed in no time when scrolling through the timeline. The smart indicator in the timeline shows you exactly which edit point is involved. You can also zoom in on the timeline to view cut points more closely.
