Ya en el año de la publicación del álbum, Richard Lehnert de Stereophile afirmó que “con su primer disco como líder, Tord Gustavsen ha creado un clásico instantáneo”. Lehnert añadió que Gustavsen era “un maestro del control y la contención pianística”, cualidades que el pianista noruego ya había perfeccionado entonces y que ha seguido aplicando en diversos contextos en ECM desde aquel momento.
